Atticus Claw has lots of line drawings in it rather than big illustrations. The idea is to keep you turning the pages, so I hope you do! Marc Ecob is the artist. I’ve never met him but I think he’s great. He does all sorts of other cool stuff too like designing the book covers. Check out his website to find out more about his work on the Atticus Claw series
Here’s a sneak preview of some of the illos from Atticus Claw Learns to Draw.
Chicken Mission is illustrated by the lovely Hannah George. You might not know this but sometimes illustrators are given suggestions by the publisher about what pictures to draw to go with the text. Here is an extract from Hannah’s brief:
FULL PAGE pic of Ruth, Amy and Boo arriving at the Chicken HQ. They are standing inside the potting sheds. At one end is the sleeping quarters and at the other is a large cupboard marked GADGETS. And in the middle of the potting sheds on top of a cardboard box is an old laptop computer with three garden stools in front of it for the chickens to sit on. Ruth is inspecting gadgets and Boo is examining the sleeping quarters. Amy is next to the birdbath, holding a small blue packet with a picture of a chicken on the front.
And here is the picture! Isn’t she brilliant? See more of Hannah’s work
Amanda and I also co-write Puppies Online. I’ve already told you about Amanda under Guinea Pigs Online, so here’s a picture of our ridiculously good looking and talented illustrator, Steve Lenton, with two of his own characters Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam. Find out more about Steve
Here are some of his pawsome illustrations for Puppies Online.
Guinea Pig Online is co-written by Amanda Swift. Amanda is very funny and one of my best friends. People often ask how how we write the books together. The answer is we come up with an idea for the story and write the chapter plan together, then write one chapter each. After that we’ll meet up again to edit it. People say they can’t tell who wrote what. I’ll let you into a secret – Amanda writes all the really funny parts like Olaf the Viking. You can find out more about Amanda on her website at http://amandaswiftauthor.blogspot.co.uk
The books are illustrated by the wonderful Sarah Horne. Check out more of her stuff on http://sarahhorne.co.uk
Here are three of my favourite pictures.
